He married Marion Ireland. His son david elder, born in 1724, was a wright at Little Seggie, in the same neighbourhood; and from note-books of his, which are'still preserved, he appears to have been a man of talent and information, and to have pos sessed considerable knowledge of mathematical and mechanical science. He was cut Off in 1756, at the early age of thirty-two, leaving, by his wife Ellen Henderson, three sons and three daughters. His eldest son, alexander, born at Little Seggie about 1748, carried on at that place, and afterwards at Milnathort, the same business. Jessica thinks her life is over when she loses a leg in a car accident. She s not comforted by the news that she ll be able to walk with the help of a prosthetic leg. Who cares about walking when you live to run? The pioneer of herbal veterinary medicine has again thoroughly revised, updated and expanded her book on natural and organic cures and farming methods, first published in 1952 and now a classic in its field. David Hockney is possibly the world's most popular living painter, but he is also something else: an incisive and original thinker on art. Here are the fruits of his lifelong meditations on the problems and paradoxes of representing a three-dimensional world on a flat surface. How does drawing make one 'see things clearer, and clearer, and clearer still', as Hockney suggests? What significance do different media - from a Lascaux cave wall to an iPad - have for the way we see? What is the relationship between the images we make and the reality around us? How have changes in technology affected the way artists A Memoir of John Elder : Engineer and Shipbuilder, Glasgow (Classic Reprint) download PDF depict the world? The conversations are punctuated by wise and witty observations from both parties on numerous other artists - Van Gogh or Vermeer, Caravaggio, Monet, Picasso - and enlivened by shrewd insights into the contrasting social and physical landscapes of California, where Hockney lives, and Yorkshire, his birthplace. Some of the people he has encountered along the way - from Henri Cartier-Bresson to Billy Wilder - make entertaining appearances in the dialogue.
